The first in a series, Storm is a twists-and-turns thriller driven by compelling characters challenged by dangerous forces, both external, internal, and eternal.
Evan Storm had been confronted by his past (an unpleasant one at that) in his dreams, and now in his waking life. He is struggling to reconcile the evil that lurks in his soul. Shadow Hex is his new neighbor, who also fears a dangerous past – her former fiancĂ© who works for the Secret Eye Agency (which is as shadowy and sinister as it sounds). Does Shadow hold the key to Evan’s redemption? Is redemption even possible?

 Guest Post -
Reincarnation means that you have been and will be brought into different lives as a human or animal. As a Sikh, I strongly believe in reincarnation. The highest form of reincarnation is the human race. But our goal in life is to break free of this cycle and become one with God. In order to do that, you have three duties you must do in your life in order to become one with God. This first is Nam Japna, keeping God in mind at all times. The second is Kirat Karna, earning an honest living. Since God is truth, a Sikh should live honestly. This doesn’t just mean avoiding crime. This includes avoiding gambling, begging, or working in the alcohol or tobacco industries. The third is Vand Chhakna (literally sharing ones’ earrings with others) which would translate to giving charity and caring for others.
I personally believe that the life we live today is given to us based on our actions which created good and bad karma in our previous life. Sometimes we go through something painful and we don’t understand why it’s happening to us. When you can’t understand why bad things are happening to you, it’s most likely because you did something in your previous life and now you’re paying for it in this life.
I look at my life and there have been a lot of things that happened to me, which I don’t understand because I’ve been a good person and have never intentionally hurt people. The way I make sense of it is that I must have hurt someone just as bad in my previous life and I’m paying for that mistake now. Sometimes karma will get you the moment after you do something bad. Other times, it takes a while for it to pay you a visit.
The idea of introducing karma and reincarnation came to me because it’s something that not a lot of people really talk about. Storm explores the past life of the character, Evan Storm, and the storyline follows Evan in his current life. His life has been pretty decent up until Shadow Hex enters. That’s when his karma pays him a visit and he tries his best to deal with the cards he’s been dealt.

Book Review and Contest The Heartbreak Cowboy by Mina Beckett Book Tour

*Old flames burn hotter the second time around…*
It’s been four long years since McCrea Coldiron watched Eleanor Mackenna
walk out of his life. He wasn’t ready for the marriage noose then and never
thought he would be. Single, free to do as he pleases, and running the
Promise Point Horse Rescue Ranch are the things that make him sure he was
right to let Eleanor go… This is until she comes back to town with a
daughter he never knew about in tow.
Eleanor knows just how badly McCrea can burn a woman and how persuasive
he can be when he wants something, so she’s more than cautious about
his charming words and cocky grin when she comes home to arrange the
sale of her grandparents’ ranch. But when a flat tire in a thunderstorm
introduces four-year-old Sophie to her daddy, Eleanor knows McCrea’s love
for his daughter is genuine. Can she trust it will be the same for her? As
the icy walls around her heart begin to melt, Eleanor must find the courage
to trust her heart or run away from the man who has always owned it.
Being shown what he lost is a wake-up call for McCrea and he isn’t about to
let Eleanor or Sophie walk away. It’s time to prove he’s a man who believes
in love and happy-ever-after.
 Sue's Review -
I love these books by Mina Beckett!!! They are such enjoyable reads!!!

The main character – Eleanor Mackenna – walked out of McCrea Coldiron’s life four years ago. Not knowing why she left, but knowing that he was not ready to get married at the time. McCrea enjoys being single and running the Promise Point Horse Rescue Ranch. Then Eleanor comes home to arrange the sale of her grandparents’ ranch – and OMG, the story just keeps getting better and better. I don’t write spoilers – so you are just going to have to read this for yourself to find out exactly what happens with her return.

I totally recommend this book. It is an easy read and is fun to see exactly what happens.

Sue's Review -

Bryce Bentley-Tales is a new author for me – and OMG, this story was wonderful!!!

13-year-old Colton and his best friend Jade are looking for twins who had recently disappeared. They are searching for them in an old abandoned house in their hometown in Ireland. This run-down building is said to be haunted – with its wolf statues outside – and then Colton believes that he saw a werewolf. I don’t write spoilers, so I will stop here and say “You really need to read this book!!”

This is an awesome story and a fairly fast read. It’s one that is truly enjoyable.

“I have loved haunted houses for as long as I can remember,” recounts Bentley-Tales. “When I was kid I was hooked on the Scooby crew who were always going into haunted castles, houses, amusement parks, museums. Heck, you name it, it was haunted!” These sweet-scary childhood memories fueled Bentley-Tales’ storytelling in this book, his first YA horror story. And certainly, developing the story through the eyes of a young gay boy allowed the author to offer a special, inclusive point of view. And while masterfully creating tension and fear through the dark fantasy conflict, the navigation of young love is another great strength Bentley-Tales displays. “There’s a part in the story where Erin wants to make Colton jealous by telling him how much attention Dylan is giving her. I get a good chuckle when I re-read it, as it’s such a typical young love triangle!”

Review - This is the first book that I have read by Gurpreet Kaur Sidhu - I can say that it is not the typical book that I would be found reading BUT once I started reading it, I found it hard to stop!!! This is the first book of a series but you can read it as a standalone novel.

Evan Storm wakes up from terrible nightmares every morning at 3:30am. He dreams of a past life as an abusive husband. Evan and his sister Denise live with their grandmother because they believe that their parents were killed in two separate accidents. When Shadow Hex moves in next door to Evan, he recognizes her as a reincarnation of his abused wife from a previous life. OK -- I don't write spoilers, so I have to stop and say that you really need to read this for yourself.

With inspiration everywhere, she finally put pen to paper (or rather, fingers to keyboard) with the intent of publishing her stories.
Writing has always come naturally to Valerie, and for a time she even worked as a technical writer. She continues to hone her skills by having at least one writing project in the works at any given time. Her true passion lies in the freedom that comes with writing the stories that pour from her imagination and real life inspiration.
Valerie believes that the experiences we have in life are just stories waiting to be written.
WOW - first book that I have read by Valerie Puri - and I can foresee that it will not be the last!!!

The main character of the book is Jennie Caraway. She has lived behind the wall for her entire life. She listens to what the Elders say -- but she knows that it should not be totally believed. Her main concern is protecting her and her brother. One day Ethan shows up in her barn -- she immediately doesn't ask questions, but treats his injuries. Once she talks more to Ethan she starts to question what the Elders are doing. OK - I have to stop there, or I'll be telling you the whole story.

This is definitely an awesome story and one that you will find hard to put down until you reach the ending. AND THEN -- you will be asking: When is the second book in the trilogy going to be released????

Book Review - The Last April by Belinda Kroll

Spontaneous, fifteen-year-old Gretchen vows to help heal the nation from the recently ended Civil War. On the morning of President Lincoln’s death, Gretchen finds an amnesiac Confederate in her garden and believes this is her chance for civic goodwill.
But reconciliation is not as simple as Gretchen assumed. When her mother returns from the market with news that a Confederate murdered the president, Gretchen wonders if she caught the killer. Tensions between her aunt and mother rise as Gretchen nurses her Confederate prisoner, revealing secrets from their past that make Gretchen question everything she knows about loyalty, honor, and trust.
The Last April is an entertaining, thoughtful novella of Ohio after the Civil War, meant to encourage readers to reflect on themes of fear and hope in uncertain political times.
Review - I'll start by saying that Belinda Kroll is a new author for me to read -- and OMG, she is an amazing author!!! She did an awesome job of researching the story - which really made the reading of the book more enjoyable. The amazing American history facts that were written into the story made the reading a pleasant experience.

This story starts by introducing you to Gretchen - a teenage girl who lives in Ohio during the civil war. When she discovers a soldier while working in her garden of her home, Gretchen isn't sure what she should do. She and her Aunt move the stranger into their home and start to render him aid. At the same time, they realize the war has ended and then that President Lincoln has been assassinated. As the story continues, Gretchen begins to learn things about her past that she had no idea about. I don't write spoilers -- but, OMG this was an amazing book to read!!!

This was an easy read - a fun escape back into time!! I really enjoy historical type novels - especially when they are historically accurate!!

Review- As a mom of an autistic son, I wish I would have read this book when he first started school. It would have saved me a lot of hassle and heartache. Luckily I found teachers that cared but that isn't always the case.
So much of this book provoked emotion in me, she knew exactly what I'd been dealing with and I especially loved the section on self care.
If you have a special needs child I highly recommend this book. It would make a great gift too.

Bonnie has spent the better part of 25 years as a graphic designer and artist. Always a lover of psychology and the forces that influence behavior, it was a natural transition for her to begin working to resolve her oldest son’s special education challenges. When he was six, a neuropsychologist said he was beyond help, and to plan for his group home care as an adult. Bonnie could not accept that nothing could be done, and she set on a path to find solutions to help her son. He is now an honor student and destined to live a typical life. Having been through the special ed system as a mom, and now as a advocate and counselor, she saw the need for support for the parents who carry this challenging burden. She has helped parents who struggle with districts who refused services, and she has coached parents in finding ways help their child succeed against the odds. Bonnie knows the fear a mother feels when her child’s future is uncertain, and that is why she chose to shift her life focus into educational consulting. She has a thriving practice as an  educational consultant and advocate for parents who find themselves struggling with the special education journey.

She is the author of Special Ed Mom Survival Guide: How to prevail in the special ed process while discovering life-long strategies for both you and your child. She is also the creator of Grounded for Life: 52 Exercises for Daily Grounding, and co-author of Same Journey, Different Paths: Stories of Auditory Processing Disorder.

She has a masters in educational counseling and another in spiritual psychology. Her bachelors degree is in architecture. She lives in Ventura County, California with her husband, two boys and their two furry felines.

Review - Edger by David Beem

Edger
by David Beem
Meet Edger (Ed-jer), a twenty-six-year-old gadget retail dork destined to become the world’s first superhero!
His superpower: the ability to channel the Collective Unconscious, a psychic network connecting the living and the dead. In his arsenal are the skills of Bruce Lee, the strength of Samson, the wisdom of the ages…and the dancing chops of Michael Jackson—including that one twisty foot move, crotch grab, and fedora tilt.
But there’s a catch…
Like every psychic superpower to get administered through a hypodermic needle, this one comes with a prick. Someone seems to have misplaced the booster necessary for stabilizing his superpower. Without it, Edger has three days before his brain turns to pudding.
Join our Dork of Destiny as he overcomes the world’s greatest butt, two rival Cluck-n-Pray gangs, an evil cow, a Green Bay Defensive Tackle, rifle-toting assassins—and a pair of stoners who inadvertently create the world’s first supervillain after a wild night on Twitter!
Sue's review -
OMG - this book was really different but amazing at the same time. David Beem does an amazing job of describing the characters and the action that is taking place.

The main character (Edger) is a 26-year old gadget retail dork. There is a psychic superpower that is administered with a hypodermic needle -- and it starts by being administered to a cow. Then the cow ---- oh wait - I can NOT tell you all that is going to happen. But believe me, it will keep you wondering what is really going to be happening next!!!

I seriously hope that David Beem plans to write a continuation of this book -- because I am sure it will also be a hit!!!
