Book Review - Special Ed Mom Survival Guide

I received a copy for my honest review, no other compensation was received.

“Your son’s brain function is severely abnormal. I would recommend you begin saving for his group home care as an adult.”

Any mom would be crushed by this dire pessimistic prediction, but Bonnie did not let this UCLA neuropsychologist’s edict determine her son’s fate. Combining relentless determination with research, learning and in-depth discussions with professionals, Bonnie found ways to help him progress from ‘severely abnormal’ to honor roll student. In the Special Ed Mom Survival Guide, Bonnie leads you through the vital steps necessary to survive as a Special Ed Mom. From learning how to manage the emotional overwhelm, to figuring out how to get the school to say yes, Bonnie presents a roadmap that leads you through this confusing obstacle course. Sharing tried and true methods, Bonnie teaches you to find your own inner compass so you can gain the ability and confidence to make decisions that bring results for your child.

Based on personal and professional experience, Bonnie will help you to:
  • Create the Right Mindset
  • Take Care of Yourself
  • Take Care of Your Child
  • Understand the Special Ed Process
  • Take Charge of the Special Ed Process
“If only I had had a guide to help me navigate all the challenges,” Bonnie says. “Then I could have focused more on my child and less on learning how to get help.” Every Special Ed Mom needs this guide to help make the journey easier!

Review- As a mom of an autistic son, I wish I would have read this book when he first started school. It would have saved me a lot of hassle and heartache. Luckily I found teachers that cared but that isn't always the case.
So much of this book provoked emotion in me, she knew exactly what I'd been dealing with and I especially loved the section on self care.
If you have a special needs child I highly recommend this book. It would make a great gift too.

Bonnie has spent the better part of 25 years as a graphic designer and artist. Always a lover of psychology and the forces that influence behavior, it was a natural transition for her to begin working to resolve her oldest son’s special education challenges. When he was six, a neuropsychologist said he was beyond help, and to plan for his group home care as an adult. Bonnie could not accept that nothing could be done, and she set on a path to find solutions to help her son. He is now an honor student and destined to live a typical life. Having been through the special ed system as a mom, and now as a advocate and counselor, she saw the need for support for the parents who carry this challenging burden. She has helped parents who struggle with districts who refused services, and she has coached parents in finding ways help their child succeed against the odds. Bonnie knows the fear a mother feels when her child’s future is uncertain, and that is why she chose to shift her life focus into educational consulting. She has a thriving practice as an  educational consultant and advocate for parents who find themselves struggling with the special education journey.

She is the author of Special Ed Mom Survival Guide: How to prevail in the special ed process while discovering life-long strategies for both you and your child. She is also the creator of Grounded for Life: 52 Exercises for Daily Grounding, and co-author of Same Journey, Different Paths: Stories of Auditory Processing Disorder.

She has a masters in educational counseling and another in spiritual psychology. Her bachelors degree is in architecture. She lives in Ventura County, California with her husband, two boys and their two furry felines.

Mocha, Moonlight, and Murder (Under The Moonlight Book 1) by MaryAnn Kempher Free Ebook Promotion

A Romantic Comedy/Mystery!

They say the best foundation for a relationship is friendship. If that’s true, then Scott Mitchell and Katherine O’Brian are destined to fall madly in love and live happily ever after. But first, someone needs to tell them. Finding themselves firmly entrenched in the “friend zone” has them both secretly asking the age old questions, “Can a friendship survive sex? Can a man and woman really be friends and lovers?”

And if those questions aren’t drama enough, why not add murder to the mix…Shortly after meeting Scott, Katherine stumbled upon a killer as he disposed of his victim. She quickly became a woman with a target on her back. And while she may have gotten away from the killer that night, he’s determined to find her, and not just because of what she saw—but because of what she found. Something priceless is hidden in the blue jeans that now grace her closet floor and the killer is determined to get it back, at any cost.

A perfect blend of romance, humor, and mystery—Mocha, Moonlight, and Murder will warm your heart, test your crime-solving skills, and tickle your funny bone.

Review - Edger by David Beem

Edger
by David Beem
Meet Edger (Ed-jer), a twenty-six-year-old gadget retail dork destined to become the world’s first superhero!
His superpower: the ability to channel the Collective Unconscious, a psychic network connecting the living and the dead. In his arsenal are the skills of Bruce Lee, the strength of Samson, the wisdom of the ages…and the dancing chops of Michael Jackson—including that one twisty foot move, crotch grab, and fedora tilt.
But there’s a catch…
Like every psychic superpower to get administered through a hypodermic needle, this one comes with a prick. Someone seems to have misplaced the booster necessary for stabilizing his superpower. Without it, Edger has three days before his brain turns to pudding.
Join our Dork of Destiny as he overcomes the world’s greatest butt, two rival Cluck-n-Pray gangs, an evil cow, a Green Bay Defensive Tackle, rifle-toting assassins—and a pair of stoners who inadvertently create the world’s first supervillain after a wild night on Twitter!
Sue's review -
OMG - this book was really different but amazing at the same time. David Beem does an amazing job of describing the characters and the action that is taking place.

The main character (Edger) is a 26-year old gadget retail dork. There is a psychic superpower that is administered with a hypodermic needle -- and it starts by being administered to a cow. Then the cow ---- oh wait - I can NOT tell you all that is going to happen. But believe me, it will keep you wondering what is really going to be happening next!!!

I seriously hope that David Beem plans to write a continuation of this book -- because I am sure it will also be a hit!!!

FREE READ – ROOM 423 BY KATHLEEN LOPEZ

Jeff thought little of the change of management at work. To him it was just a new set of people coming in to run things. It was not as if his job changed at all, no one’s did. It was business as usual. It was not until another co-worker pointed out a strange occurrence since the new management took over – people had started to go missing. Jeff chalked it up to people unhappy with the change and quitting, but when his friend is the next to ‘up and quit’, never heard from again, Jeff starts to believe there is more going on than mere disgruntled employees.
Demanding to know what happened to his friend, Jeff tries to meet with the new leadership, only to get a chilly reception. He is denied repeatedly for a request to meet with his HR rep. Why can’t he talk to management? Why are they so distant? Just what is happening behind the door of Room 423?

Book Blast - Death of a Sculptor in Hue, Shape and Color

Death of a Sculptor in Hue, Shape and Color
Color coded love stories and revealing female anatomies lead to the murder of world renowned sculptor, Bruce Jones.
In life, the artist loved women, almost as much as women loved him. Adored for his art and colorful personality, Bruce is mourned by the world at large. The tale is launched with the multifaceted perspectives of four ex-wives, the current wife, and his new love interest and their children.
Mary , Bruce’s wealthy first love, is always in perfect pink; the color of love. Mother of Clair the famous actress and Aaron the corporate lawyer.
Leslie The Second’s color is yellow for her sunny nature as much as for her fears and insecurities. Her only son Bobby is vulnerable and lost. Mourning his father’s death, he finds himself.
Petra The Third, is outstanding in orange, representing not only her native Holland but also her love of the fruit. Cherished her freedom and had no children of her own.
Toni The Fourth is a vibrant passionate Italian red and part of the eventual glue that creates and solidifies this dysfunctional Jones family. Her teenage daughters Tina and Isa are as different as night and day.
Brooke The Fifth a gold-digger. Green, her color, reflects the color of money and envy. Her young son’s Kyle and Caleb are too young to understand why their world has been turned upside-down.
Mara, as blue as the ocean was the last woman to steal Bruce’s heart. Mother to newborn Baby Peter is the unexpected gift and surprise.
Bruce Jones’ eight children speak out, too. They are as distinctive as the women he loved, their mothers.
Loose ends are tied up by the insights of Sylvia, Aaron’s wife and a trusted keeper of secrets; Scott, the private investigator and family friend; Nona, the quintessential grandmother everyone loves but to whom few are truly related; and Detective Jim Miller who will not rest until he discovers Bruce Jones’ murderer.

Sue's Review -
WOW WOW WOW - what an awesome suspenseful mystery!!! This book was well written and kept you guessing as to what was going to happen next!!!

The main character - Jazz - was well written into her part. She handled herself well - no matter what was thrown her way (and believe me, a lot was thrown her way). I also loved Michael - the hunky detective that helps Jazz out of several bad situations. And the story with the little bit of erotic romance added in -- that really helped make the story that much more interesting. I don't write spoilers, so I won't say anything more. BUT - once you start reading, you won't want to put the book down until you finish because it is that good!!!!

There are plenty of twists and turns that will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat!!! For sure, this is a must read!!!

Review - A Painting to Die for by Joan C. Curtis

A Painting to Die For
Book 3 Jenna Scali Mystery Series
Jenna’s quiet weekend turns upside down when her house is ransacked and a body is found with her name and number in its possession. Meanwhile her long-lost cousins show up with stories about international art theft dating back to World War II.
While Jenna questions the motives of her dead father in his connection to stolen art, the police find a second body with Jenna’s name in its possession and she becomes the primary link in two murder inquiries. Sidestepping the police and dodging the mob, she and her best friend, Quentin, embark on their own investigation to save themselves and Jenna’s cousins from untimely deaths.

Offset by the quiet university town where faculty and students mill about, minding their own business, Jenna is kidnapped and held at gunpoint while her double-crossing, lying cousins chase after the missing painting worth millions.

A Painting to Die For forms a web of deceit that leaves Jenna doubting everything she believes about her father and his Italian heritage.

Sue's Review -
A Painting TO Die For is the 3rd book in the Jenna Scali Mystery Series by Joan C. Curtis. And as far as I am concerned, this series just keeps getting better and better. I know that these are really considered standalone books in the series – but you learn so much about Jenna, if you read the books in order. E-Murderer is book 1 and Murder on Moonshine Hill is book 2. Jenna Scali was hoping for a quiet weekend – but there was no way for that when it came to Jenna’s life. When she returned to her home, she found that someone had broken in and they were obviously looking for something – but what??? The next thing she knows, the police show up in regards to a dead body that they found with her name in its possession. To make things even more interesting, some long-lost cousins show up to visit. The family members start discussing some stolen paintings, hidden masterpieces, friends who belong to the Mafia and so much more. Jenna was shocked when the cousins left as quickly as they arrived. She tells Quentin (her best friend) what has happened and they decide that they need to try to figure out what is happening before Jenna gets arrested for something she didn’t do. OK – I have to stop now, or I’ll tell you everything that is going to happen (and believe me, I have just touched on the tip of the ice berg with this book) and ruin the book for you. Just be prepared to sit and read when you start this book, because you will not want to stop until you reach the end and see you can solve the crimes and figure out the who done it!!! Looking forward to Joan C. Curtis next book!!!
