THE SOUL OF THE WORLD Book Tour and Review

by Joshua Silverman

The ancient powers lost to Potara have returned. The Brotherhood of the Black Rose rises to bring Thoth into disorder. And, while the Brotherhood reclaims their power, chaos reigns among the survivors. Six individuals have emerged from the aftermath struggling for control over their lives and a divided land. Kem and Shirin, who abolished the five thousand year reign of the Amun Priests, rule from the golden throne of the Oracle’s Chair in the Hall of the Nine. Dio and Axios struggle to piece together a resistance worthy to challenge the ancient magic which resides in the Great Temple of Amun, and Leoros and Atlantia try to remain true to their hearts and their cause despite tragedy. But when the Book of Breathings is discovered, the path to immortality is revealed. Leoros and Kem race to capture the Soul of the World unaware of the challenges awaiting them. This time, the gods themselves will intervene. In a tale where boys become men and girls become women, where treachery and deception are around every corner, and where primeval mysticism finds its way back from the grave, victory is reserved for neither the good nor the evil, but the powerful.

Our review:
I had a hard time getting into book one of this series, so I was leery about reading book 2. But this book was so much better: we jump right into the action, and there is really no let-up after that.

The existing characters get amped up, the new ones are intriguing. . .okay, this is a great improvement.

I loved the inner struggle we see in Leoros. He has grown and developed in the two years since the end of book 1.

The setting, the tension and the changing points of view made this a compelling read. I'm ready to read book 3. Bring it on!

THE KING OF SUNDAY MORNING (REVIEW)

The King of Sunday Morning is a geezer. Not in the traditional sense of the word as in old man. This geezer is a face, a wannabe, a top notch bloke. He is the greatest DJ that never was. He should have been. Could have been. Would have been. Now becoming a has-been.

Tray McCarthy was born into privilege but with the genetic coding of London’s violent East End. Having broken the underworld’s sacred honour code, it is only his family’s gangland connections that save him. But in return for his life, he must deny that which he has ever known or ever will be and runs to Australia where he is forced to live an inconsequential life.

But trouble never strays far from Tray McCarthy and eventually his past and present collide to put everyone he has ever loved in danger. He must now make a stand and fight against those that are set to destroy him and play their game according to his rules.

Set against the subterfuge and violence of the international drugs trade, The King of Sunday Morning is the tale of what can go wrong when you make bad decisions. Tray McCarthy has made some of the worst. He must now save those he holds dear but in the process gets trapped deeper and deeper into a world where he doesn’t belong. “I want three pump-action shotguns, about twelve sticks of dynamite and a blowtorch”

MY THOUGHTS : I received a copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion. The author has a canny ability to entice the reader into connecting with the characters. This is not the typical genre of book that I would typically read, but that did not diminish the great story that the author told.

It was a very fast paced book that changed eras, but never took anything away from the story; it was still easily followed. The details gave me the impression that there was a lot of research into the many aspects of the book and that the author just didn't write the story, but invested a piece of himself into it. Each character breathed life into the telling of the story, enhancing it more and more. I would highly recommend this book to other readers especially if they are looking for something "just a little bit different".

THIS BOOK CONTAINS EXPLICIT LANGUAGE, FREQUENT DRUG USE AND SEX SCENES - NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PEOPLE UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE

The Spirit of Sultan Book Review

SpiritSultanbanner
One of the most venerated Sufi poets and saints, Hazrat Sultan Bahu’s life has been as veiled as the divine. Through countless stories, the loveable and fully illumined spiritual master’s life has been told mostly through oral tradition. Using the deep emotions of his teachings, this inspiring new book uses the depth of Sultan Bahu to ignite the love of God in readers’ hearts while uplifting them to greater heights.

The Spirit of a Sultan is a mystical new novel based on the true life accounts of Sufi reverend, poet, and saint, Sultan Bahu. A historical biography reminiscent of Autobiography of a Yogi, the novel uses a slight fictional component to create a spiritual atmosphere throughout the story. A spellbinding tale of enlightenment, this wonderful book follows Sultan Bahu’s life history and spiritual journey while showing us all how to connect with God in our hearts and minds. Written in an extraordinarily unique and intriguing style, The Spirit of a Sultan portrays the true account of a saint who shares a great many parallels with Guatama Buddha. Following a man who gave away his wealth, land, and legacy in order to pursue an austere existence in search of the truth while teaching others the realization of God and special meditation techniques, the novel inspires readers everywhere to re-examine their own lives and their relationships with God.

Review -  I learned a lot about the Muslim religion reading this book. It is centered on Sultan Bahu who was a poet and saint. The poetry and prayers are beautiful. He encountered many people and had amazing compassion.
I enjoyed his travels and the descriptions of the places, especially the holy shrines. It is amazing to think of how the people were influenced by his teachings. I have read about the Taj Mahal before but never like this!
It was an eye opening tale about Islam and what they believe and hope to achieve. And of course love is at its core. The love between Bahu and his mother was very important. She was an amazing woman and was my favorite “character”.
This book would be enjoyed by Muslims who want to know more and by non-Muslims who want to learn about the religion.

The Balance Between Parenthood and Writing

I love writing, plain and simple. If anyone asks what I do, the first thing I say is that I write. While that’s true, it’s not the only thing I do, although it’s what I spend most of my free ‘me’ time doing. My main function, even now that my daughters (three of them) are all over 18, is as a parent. A single parent. I raised my darlings on my own since they were toddlers and like to think I’ve done an admirable job, not that there weren’t plenty of difficult, hair-tearing-out times, but overall, I have successfully turned out three independent, intelligent and self-sufficient young women. With these charmers all out of high school and over 18, I find that I have time and energy (both were stretched thin for years) to concentrate on my ‘other’ passion, and that’s writing.

I like to write in different genres, and my latest book is a young adult science fiction. I chose to write young adult mainly because I remember all those nights when my girls were young, when it was ‘story time’ before bed. Of course I’d read them the typical children’s books, but what they really wanted was one of my stories. These were short little tales that I’d make up, using them, of course, as characters. Some were silly and goofy, and others were exciting fantasies or science fiction. They really liked the science fiction stories of flying around in spaceships or visiting other planets. So, years later, I wondered if I could write an entire science fiction novel involving teenagers.

I developed the main characters of Two Brothers: Origin, two twin boys who have some personal secrets that they can’t share with anyone. I also have them home-schooled up until their senior year when they are put in public school, just to make their teenage lives even more difficult!

I dredged up the memories of real experiences from when my girls were in high school for the story. As we all know, high school is a time for learning about your place in the world, for better or worse. There are still bullies, the popular kids, the stoners, the brains, the jocks and the outcasts. I fit into the ‘outcast’ category, so I know exactly what that’s like and how it sticks with you for a long time. For my two brothers, Argus and Tai, they try to fit in and be normal kids, but it’s hard for them as they have special ‘abilities’ or powers, and as they get older, they are developing more of these abilities. They soon find that in addition to the usual teenage issues, now their struggle to fit in is compounded because of their secret.

When I see what Argus and Tai have to go through, I’m really glad my girls were normal and didn’t have to deal with hostile aliens or secret government agencies. In the second book of the trilogy, which is almost complete, the stakes are raised even higher for Argus and Tai. I really hope they graduate high school and can find a balance between who they are and who they want to be. After all, isn’t that what the teenage years are all about?

Review -- This book was a surprising read for me. It isn't something I would normally pick up but the cover was gorgeous so I said yes. The writing was fantastic, I felt like I was watching a movie, a very good movie. The world that was built was amazing, the world is run by a artificial intelligence. There were A LOT of technical terms but after a while I caught on. The beginning was a bit slow but I give that to all of the world building and after awhile I got swept up into it and didn't put it down.

The ending was WOW. You think about it long after.

I received a book for my honest review, no other compensation was received.

ACID KING Guest Post and Giveaway!

Four long-estranged friends from London's turbulent Sixties scene of sex, drugs and rock and roll are thrown together after seventeen years when one of them accidentally discovers the secret identity of their betrayer; a man they knew only as The Acid King, a charismatic figure who orchestrated a weekend of alluring drugs ending with a bust, jail time and death.
  • What the friends don’t know is that a New York FBI Agent, another old enemy of the Acid King, has been on a long frustrating manhunt of his own, driven by the same rage for revenge.  Until, by coincidence, he discovers the mystery man’s hidden Los Angeles location and tracks him to his lair. Resulting in a dangerous confrontation that puts lives, both guilty and innocent, on the line.
  • The Acid King is the thinly veiled story of the famous Redlands drug bust of 1967; an event that put Mick Jagger and Keith Richards behind bars and nearly destroyed the world’s most famous rock band. All orchestrated by an unidentified man who set them up and then disappeared.
  • By a strange twist of fate the Author (former film agent for Mick Jagger) met the Acid King in Los Angeles and became involved with him for several years, never knowing who he really was, until her friend Marianne Faithfull (former lover of Jagger) surprisingly identified him.

EDGY TIMES – LONDON IN THE LATE SIXTIES

I was a busy agent in the London office of Creative Management Associates when the drug bust at the heart of my story The Acid King shook up our lives.  We had an exclusive list of star clients, with Steve McQeen, Paul Newman and others, all making  Hollywood movies in Europe. The Rolling Stones were clients too – and we were aiming to put them all together in a movie of The Clockwork Orange, but resistance from major studios was hard to beat, and producer Si Litvinoff instead made a deal with Stanley Kubrick for the movie we all know.

Mick and Keith were good friends, so of course I got all the dramatic phone calls following the bust, with ceaseless conversations about what could have happened.  Who was this guy, David Snyderman, who called himself “The Acid King”?  How had he infiltrated their circle?  Who did he know?  The mystery was never solved, and he vanished, so the London newspapers called him Mister X, and the painful court appearances went on without him as a witness, resulting in Mick and Keith getting a few days in prison. But there was no question our lives were changed, the carefree sixties were over.

My colleague Sandy Lieberson and I went on to put together the movie starring Mick Jagger called Performance — and the edgy times continued.

About Maggie:

The Acid King tells the fictionalized story of what she imagined could have happened afterwards. Maggie Abbott started writing novels when she moved to Palm Springs after a long, successful show business career in Los Angeles, London, Rome, and New York. A casual job as a secretary at the William Morris Agency in Rome introduced her to the exciting scene of Cleopatra, Fellini's  and The Pink Panther, with the city's influx of big stars calling by the office every day, and triggered her lifelong love affair with movies. Over the years, Maggie has enjoyed being in the most interesting places at the best of their times, while working as the movie agent for some exciting stars:  Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Charlotte Rampling, Jacqueline Bisset, Martin Sheen, Raquel Welch, Christopher Plummer, Robert Redford, Mia Farrow, Peter Sellers, Richard Chamberlain, Peter O'Toole, Britt Ekland, Ken Russell, John Boorman, and many more. Somewhere in between, Maggie was the production assistant on three Broadway plays, and a producer and studio executive at Columbia Pictures where she developed and got production credits on two movies. I’ve just completed my first draft of my new book, Crowdfunding for Social Good: Financing Your Mark on the World. The book is a guide to successful crowdfunding for people who want to change the world. The book is not a sequel to my book, Your Mark On The World, but it is written in the same spirit. I’ve studied a dozens of successful crowdfunding campaigns, interviewing the people behind them to learn their secrets for success. Devin's Book, Your Mark on the World, was downloaded over 75,000 times and reached the #19 spot on Amazon's free book list--among all free books. It remains on the top 50 free nonfiction books at Amazon.

Review - Starting a charity never crossed my mind. Sure I give - to food banks, to the Humane Society, to Church but creating a charity myself?  Maybe, this book had a way of exciting me. There were things I could do! It was inspiring with all of the stories of people who had done good and how they funded it.

If you've ever thought about doing good in the world, this book is for you. Even if you haven't thought about it you should read it any way. Very inspirational and leads me to believe there is good out there and it only takes one person to do it.

About Devin:

Devin D. Thorpe thinks he is the luckiest person alive. After being “let go” from the best job he’d ever had—as the Chief Financial Officer of the multinational food and beverage company MonaVie—he and his wife ended up living in China for a year where he wrote Your Mark On The World and embarked on the career he’d always wanted yet hadn’t dared dream. Now, as an author, a popular guest speaker and Forbes contributor, Devin is devoted full time to championing social good. His current life isn’t much like his past. As an entrepreneur, Devin ran—at separate times—a boutique investment banking firm and a small mortgage company. He served as the Treasurer for the multinational vitamin manufacturer USANA Health Sciences years before becoming CFO for MonaVie. Over his career he led or advised on the successful completion of $500 million in transactions. Devin squeezed in two brief stints in government, including two years working for Jake Garn on the U.S. Senate Banking Committee Staff and another year working for an independent state agency called USTAR, where he helped foster technology entrepreneurship during Governor Jon Huntsman’s administration. Devin is proud to have graduated from the University of Utah David Eccles School of Business, which recognized him as a Distinguished Alum in 2006. He also earned an MBA at Cornell University where he ran the student newspaper, Cornell Business. Today, Devin channels the idealism of his youth with the loving support of his wife, Gail. Their son Dayton is a PhD candidate in Physics at UC Berkeley (and Devin rarely misses an opportunity to mention that).

Overcome by his cravings, Paul bites her delectable skin. Amazingly, she doesn’t develop the zombie-like side effects. While Paul and his friends work on the vaccine, protecting the north becomes protecting the world. Heather is taken hostage and Paul races toward Dominic to save his heart. Paul needs to survive the upcoming war before he finds himself defecting to the other side and leaving Heather to Dominic’s mercy. My Review is of the first book although I will be reading all of them!
I first became a fan of Bonnie R Paulson when I read the Into the End series. After I read that I swore I would read anything she wrote!

I don't mind zombies but I LOVED these zombies. We watch Paul struggle with his humanity. He has 12 weeks until he turns into a mindless zombie. How is that for a start of a series? I mean seriously, I <3 this author. I was so completely enthralled through out the entire book. Paul is hilarious. I can't wait to learn more about Heather as the series develops.  I'm getting ready to pick up book two.

Review - I received a copy of Within the Realm for my honest opinion, no other compensation was received.

As soon as I read the blurb I had to read book. This was a fantastic start to a series. We get to learn about the characters and their powers about the organization they are working for. We meet Ranier and Emily as they start their lives as adults.

I found it interesting that the 'voice' of the story was male but I really liked Ranier. He was sweet and romantic. I didn't always like Emily but she is young and I know she will grow with the series. We are also introduced to Emily's big brother Logan and Adeline.

This story has something for everyone - Action, romance, fantasy, and some sci-fi. I LOVE this world. The author did an awesome job and I can't wait to read more.

***** Must Read!

And he’s become addicted to meth. A near-fatal mistake during the attempted bust by the cops leaves a bullet lodged in the right temporal lobe of Charlie’s brain. Operating to remove it would likely kill Charlie. Living with it will change him forever. Two men linked by a tangle of lies and twisted loyalties. Two men who could not be more different—or more the same. When they meet again, for one of them it will be the Last Day.

Review - From the very first page you are hooked and you HAVE to know what happens. Never throughout the entire book did this past paced story let me down. In my head I knew cops are good and the criminals are bad but in my head I felt so bad for Charlie. He is a cop DEEP under cover, so deep the lines of his reality are blurred.

He is away from his family, hooked on meth and dependent on the man he is suppose to take down and YOU will not be able to put this book down. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Highly recommend.

I received a copy of this book for my honest opinion, no other compensation was received.

 Carolyn's Review-
To Love a Wolf is a paranormal erotica book. I was expecting more erotica than there was in the book for some reason, but am happy that it wasn't just thrown in for the sake of throwing it in there. The scenes were not cheesy as I have seen in many other books lately.

The book is written from the point of view of the main male character, Cevin, which is different than what I usually read. The main female character, Sam, is actually a really strong character and I would have liked to see more of her character developed.

The story is about two medical students finishing up their school years and looking forward to getting on with their life together. Cevin begins having very vivid dreams of another woman, and then soon finds out that the woman is real and some of what is happening in the dream is really happening to him. He learns of a whole new world that exists and he will quickly become a part of it.

The book is a really fast read, but to be honest, I didn't want this one to be. This story actually had the potential to be a full novel. I'd love to read more about the back-story of Cevin's family. The last three pages alone could have been several chapters! I felt like some of the storyline was just jumped over or ran through really fast. I found myself re-reading a couple of paragraphs a few times to figure out how I got to where I was in the story. BUT, I still think that this book was really well written.

Short stories are just that, short. However, this one truly has the potential to be a lot longer! I am happy to know that there is at least another book in the series so I hope that there is more in terms of the history behind these characters!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

“Do you have pen and paper?” she asked John.
“Yes, I’ll get it for you.” He walked somberly to the office in the back of the church. Ilisha felt the same pain, but was doing everything she could to distract her mind.
Losing herself in the instructions of the letter, she dipped her head to write.

After attending GA Tech to study Industrial Engineering, she settled down in a small town outside the city where she has remained ever since. She keeps house for one husband, two sons, and a thankless dog (who she adores anyway). Book Review -
This is NOT what I expected but in a good way.
This was an emotional and dark read but I loved it. What would you do if you spouse suddenly vanished?
I would FREAK OUT!
The book is about two couples who lives are forever changed by unfortunate circumstances. I could relate
to the women in the story and my heart ached. I've felt underappreciated before. I don't know if I would have made the same decisions but hey, it made for an awesome story!

FairyTale Mother is a page turner!

About the Author – Olivia Hardin realized early on how strange she was to have complete movie-like character dreams as a child. Eventually she began putting those vivid dreams to paper and was rarely without her spiral notebooks full of those mental ramblings. Her forgotten vision of becoming an author was realized when she connected with a group of amazingly talented and fabulous writers who gave her lots of direction and encouragement. With a little extra push from family and friends, she hunkered down to get lost in the words. She’s also an insatiable crafter who only completes about 1 out of 5 projects, a jogger who hates to run, and is sometimes accused of being artistic, though she’s generally too much of a perfectionist to appreciate her own work. A native Texas girl, Olivia lives in the beautiful Lone Star state with her husband and their puppy Bonnie. Connect with her Online -  Blog * Goodreads  * TwitterFacebook * Literary Addicts

“No one’s gone through this place because anyone with any sense would know better. Now perhaps you should tell me what you’re doing on this property.”
Cold tingly sensations swept from Hope’s belly through her legs when she heard the voice from the doorway. She looked to find a very tall and thin man with dirty blond hair staring hard at them. He was dressed in what looked to be a riding suit and judging by his accent, she thought he might be English.
“My name is Brennan Rawley, and I own this property. That means I could ask you the same thing.”
The man’s gray eyes flinched ever so slightly, and he gave an appearance of being startled but recovered in an instant. He raised an eyebrow and slid his hands into his pockets.
“I expect you can prove that.”
Hope didn’t have to look at Bren to know his hackles were up. The air crackled with intensity, and it was all she could do to trust him to restrain himself when she grabbed Michelle from his outstretched arms. He took a few steps forward to put his body between Hope and the man.
“Do you walk into people’s houses every day and tell them to prove their ownership?”
The tall man’s frown deepened. “I didn’t tell you to do anything. If you say you own it, then I can’t do more than accept your word.” He inclined his head for effect. “For now. I expect we’ll be speaking again, sir.”

There is darkness in everyone. Purchase the book: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

Our review:  THE LEGENDS OF AMUN-RA: The Emerald Tablet is a story with tremendous ambition and a creative plan for the plot. The idea is an interesting twist of Indiana Jones-like adventure combined with a sci-fi angle. There are scenes that transcend the story and show a great deal of promise, but while it is engaging, the lack of editing and of consistent use of tenses and style keeps this book from being excellent.

There are two saving elements: first is the main character, Leoros, who is truly engaging. The second is that The Emerald Tablet is actually the first in a planned seven-book series, so there is plenty of time (and room for) improvement as the series unfolds. Perhaps the author will tie everything together, thus redeeming this first installment.

The series will appeal to those who enjoy science fiction.
